How Long Until a Business Management Degree Pays for Itself?
You type in your own numbers — tuition, years, salary band — and it does the payback math. It doesn’t know you, it doesn’t predict salaries, and it isn’t financial advice.
Degree ROI Estimator
Enter your own numbers. The tool does the payback arithmetic and nothing else.
Read this before trusting the number
- Salary varies by location, field, employer, and effort — this tool cannot predict your salary.
- Payback math is simplified; it is not financial advice and guarantees nothing.
- Figures you enter are yours; the tool only does the arithmetic.
Key assumptions
- Your expected starting salary is the midpoint of the band you choose.
- The 100k+ band has no upper bound, so the tool assumes 112,500 for it.
- Future raises and promotions are ignored.
- Loan interest and other borrowing costs are ignored.
- Lost wages during study are ignored; years in school are not counted as a cost.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about the estimator and the guides on this site.
How does the payback estimator work?
You enter total tuition, years of study, a starting-salary band, and what you could earn each year without the degree. The tool divides tuition by the yearly salary premium (the band midpoint minus your baseline) to get a simple payback period. That arithmetic is all it does.
Is this financial advice?
No. It is a rough sketch, not a recommendation. Salaries vary by location, employer, and effort, and the math ignores loan interest, raises, and wages lost while studying.
Where do your salary and cost figures come from?
Our guides cite NCES, College Navigator, studentaid.gov, and BLS data. Our editorial policy and About page explain how we put numbers together.
Can an online business degree pay back faster?
It can, because online programs often cost less, which shortens the payback math. But accreditation, your field, and how you use the degree matter more than the format. See Online vs Campus.
What if my salary band does not beat my no-degree baseline?
Then the tool cannot compute a payback period, and it will tell you so. The degree may still be worth it for other reasons, but not on salary premium alone.
